Kevin Tyler approached the CTC in January of 2006 with an idea for cumulatively ranking all the runners that entered certain races in 2006. The following races were selected throughout the year: St. Patrick's 5K, the Show-Me Stampede, the Human Race, the Wellaware 5K, the Mexican Independence Day 5K, the Cranberry Crawl, the Jingle Bell Run, and the First Night 5K. The Jingle Bell Run was not held in 2006, so the points were added up for the other 7 races thus:
  1. start with the times for the fastest man and the fastest woman for each race
  2. to get each runner's raw score, divide the time for the fastest man by each of the times of the other male runners, and divide the time for the fastest woman by each of the times of the other female runners
  3. to get each runner's point total for a race, multiply the results above by 100
  4. to get the cumulative point total for each runner, add the point totals for all races.
  5. in years when not all races counted toward the total, only the top ten races per person per year were counted for each individual.
  6. in years when one of the races is not counted, only the top nine races per person per year were counted.
  7. only people who are members of the Columbia Track Club for the year of the competition are eligible for prizes.
The program which performs these functions was developed by Ronald Hindley. For Ron's take on the serial competition, click here.
