19th ANNUAL SEDALIA HALF MARATHON
127 runners cross the finish line in this year’s annual event. Weather conditions were arctic like with temperatures hovering in the upper 20’s at the start and low 30’s by the finish. The wind was stiff out of the north, but the sun was shining brightly and kept most of the runners comfortable. Tim Schmid (1:15:03) was the men’s champion and became the first person over 40 years of age to be the first across the line. Tim did not take the lead until the 7-mile mark. He then quickly built a 20-second cushion by mile 9 then cruised in for his third SHM crown. On the women’s side, Shari Woiwood (1:28:49) claimed her fifth SHM title with a 1:33 victory over the second place finisher, and masters champion, Kathleen Johnson (1:31:22). SRC members Rod Williams, 5th in 1:17:09 and Steve Stoncipher-Fisher, 14th in 1:22:38 also turned in fine performances.
The following list of people gave up their Sunday morning to stand out in the cold and help with the cause. Aid Station workers were: John, Mary and Kelly Meehan and JB Waggner who manned the 1^st and last aid station, Jeff Barnes and his son who worked the 2^nd and 4^th aid station, and Herb Mittelhauser and Julie Mills worked the turnaround aid station. Robin Lang was our baker, timer and worked the registration desk. Terry Harms and Brett Lang worked as corner marshals. Robin and Tom May worked with results and registration. Alex and Allison Lang helped with handing out the *All Sport*, which was donated by the Local Pepsi distributor, who was our lone sponsor. All of these people made this race run as smooth as silk and their help was much appreciated! Next years race is tentatively scheduled for March 24^th , 2002. Hope to see you there!
