Age: 38

How long have you been running? I started running January 13, 1991 -- the day I learned my mother had terminal cancer. I had finally recovered from a second back operation and was pushing 240 on the scale, and suddenly the need to live a heathly life and get back in shape was staring me directly in the face. I headed out the door of my fraternity house and ran 3 miles. In less than a year, I had lost 75 pounds just from running.

Weekly mileage: 60-70

What is your favorite workout? Long Runs! As much as I would hate to admit it, I love training for a marathon. I've also enjoyed joining running groups and getting to know other runners during long runs.

Where is your favorite place to run? My favorite venue is running the Bear Creek Trail with my dogs. This run is never predictable -- I never know what types of animals we will encounter. Sometimes it's peaceful and easy, but sometimes we see wildlife, and then I have to run as fast as I can to keep up with the dogs.

What are some of your running accomplishments? The first is losing weight and getting healthy; after all, that is why I started to run. This is the one accomplishment that can remain constant with running.

Another is completing my first marathon (HOA 2007). The marathon was the next thing on my list of things to do in my life. When I set out to do this, I had no idea what I had gotten myself into, and when I finished it, I vowed never to do such a thing again. Seven marathons later, I cannot wait until the next. I love pushing myself both mentally and physically in order to live up to my motto: "never give up"!

What are you running goals? I don't have any time goals for races. Sure, a fast marathon time would be cool, but I just want to be able to continue to love to run. Not having time goals makes every race I finish a success!

Personal info and interests: I live in Columbia with my dogs, Copper and Tanner. Oddly enough, most of my activites somehow involve them. It's obvious how much they love to run -- in their youth, they logged 40 miles a week with me! We also enjoy fishing, hunting, eating and lying on the couch.
