When did you start running? I started running in high school when I joined the Helias track and field team. My freshman year I started with shorter distances (200 and 400) but by my sophmore year I realized I enjoyed longer distances and started competing in the 1600 and 3200. I joined my high school cross country team my senior year.

My greatest running influences? My biggest influences at the start of my running career were my coaches and close friends. Both my high school and collegiate coaches were very supportive of my running and training, and I give them credit for helping me discover my potential as a runner. Through the years my friends have also played a major role in my running. Some of my favorite running memories are with my closest friends.

My weekly mileage: Right now my mileage is about 40-50 miles per week. When I ran in college it was much higher.

My favorite workout: My favorite road workout is a fartlek workout of 2 min hard, 1 min easy for about 6 miles (with a mile warmup and cool down).
My favorite track workout is a 10K workout of 1600 meters at 10K pace, 1600 meters @ 8min pace, 1200 @ 5 sec faster than 10K pace, 1200 @ 8min/mile, 800 @ 10 sec faster than 10K pace, 800 @ easy, 600 @ 15 sec faster than 10K pace, 600 easy, 400 all out (sounds complicated but it's a great workout).

My favorite place to run in Columbia: Rock Bridge State Park. I love trail running!

My major running accomplishments: In high school, I was the State Champion in the 1600 meter run my senior year and a member of the state champion 4 x 800 team. Current High School record holder for the 1600 meter run. In college I was all american twice in the 10,000 meter run and was conference champion in the 3K, 5K, and 10K in 1999 and 2000, and 10K in 2001. Current school record holder for the indoor 5K. MIAA High Point Individual at the Outdoor 2000 meet. All conference cross country.

My running goals: My major goal for running now is to remain competitive. I want to improve my marathon time and continue to race cross country races. Also I just want running to remain fun for me and be out there enjoying the roads for a very long time.

Personal info: I am a veterinarian. Along with running, I also enjoying riding my bike on the trail and playing the organ at church. I've done a couple of triathlons, but running is my passion, and I would much rather run a road race.
